European delegation on an official visit to Senegal

Dakar, 9 February – Mr. Sobel Aziz Ngom ADA Youth Affairs Officer, IDA member and President of the Consortium Jeunesse Sénégal had the honor to welcome in its headquarters in Guédiawaye, the President of the European Commission Mrs. Ursula Von der Leyen, accompanied by the Vice-President Mrs. Margrethe Vestager and 4 Commissioners: Mrs. Jutta Urpilainen – International Partnerships, Mr. Thierry Breton – Internal Market, Mrs. Ylva Johansson – Home Affairs, and Mrs. Kadri Simson – Energy.
The Ministers of Economy, Planning and Cooperation Mr. Amadou Hott, and of Youth Ms. Néné Fatoumata Tall, the Deputy Prefect Ms. Coumba Sall Wade, and the Mayor of the town Mr. Racine Talla, were alongside the President of the Consortium Jeunesse Sénégal, Mr. Sobel Aziz Ngom to welcome them.
This meeting allowed the European delegation on an official visit to Senegal to meet with some thirty young learners, activists and entrepreneurs, and to discuss with openness issues of concern to young people such as systemic inclusion, equity in mobility, green investment, access to capital, or market access for young Senegalese entrepreneurs.
President Von der Leyen also launched the Investing in Young Business in Africa (IYBA) initiative, a €4.6 billion (XOF 3,000 billion) fund to support young entrepreneurs, growing start-ups, and local and national entrepreneurial ecosystems in Africa. Senegal will be the pilot country for this initiative.
Finally, Commissioner Urpilainen signed a partnership agreement with a group of women’s associations led by Ms. Mame Diarra Ndiaye, President of Solidarité Active.
The meeting ended at the end of the afternoon in a good atmosphere with a group photo with the authorities present and the young participants on the square of the Espace Jeunes Yaakaar.
